How Do You Find the Percentage Between Two Numbers?
Use This Equation:
-
(Number #1 / Number #2) * 100
OR
( A / B ) * 100
-
Equation Instructions:
First: Identify the first number in the equation
Second: Identify the second number in the equation
Third: Divide the First Number by the Second Number
(the results of this division will give you an answer that is a decimal point of some sort, it may be greater than 1 or less than 1)
Fourth: Multiply the decimal point by 100
Boom, there you have it!
The results of the three steps above in using the equation will be “Number #1 is __% of Number #2”
OR
“A is __% of B”
-
Why is this concept Important?
What is it used for?
Discovering the percentage of a between two numbers allows us to determine how much of a portion one number is compared to another.
For example:
Let’s say you own a store and sell an item for $100. You want run a sale and mark this item down by $30 but aren’t sure what percentage this is.
(I know, this example is fairly easy, but stick with me)
You’ll need to find out what portion, or, what percentage $30 is of $100
This calculation: ($30/$100)*100
Here we can see that $30 is 30% of $100.
In our hypothetical store, if we mark this item down by $30 it will be (very conveniently) also be 30% off.
Calculating the percentage of 100 is easy, but it gets tougher when you have odd numbers.
That’s where this calculator comes in handy!
Here are some examples of tougher calculations this page makes easy:
809 is 34% of 2,345
35 is 76% of 46
332 is 265% of 125
